On September 22, 2016, Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC),together with Population Services Khmer (PSK) organized a workshop related to health education for students’ information and readiness. PSK is a local organization which provides family planning services for Cambodian people.
The topic of presentation was birth control. It is necessary to learn to prevent unplanned pregnancies. According to PSK, there are two ways to do family planning, either short-term or long-term, in a way that is convenient to the parents. Short-term methods include using condoms or birth control pills to avoid getting pregnant. Tying off the woman’s ovaries is a way to permanently avoid having babies.
As a result of planned pregnancy, the mother and fetus have better health. In addition, the mother has enough time to look after her young kids and to work. If a student has an unplanned pregnancy, she will not have enough time or money for her baby and education.
